Are you ready for the DDLS bomb to drop? Hold on to your soup bowls and start the countdown, are you ready? 3—-2—-1— DICK’S A VEGETARIAN!” Laughable if you know me, but it happens to be true, I am. For a mind blowing 4 day’s now with a commitment of 58 more, I have sworn off all animal protein and byproducts. Even though I expected it, the transition period from omnivore to herbivore is proving to be a bitch and I am not enjoying it one little bit. My rumbling stomach, massive headache, increased irritability and loss of patience is causing a serious re-think of my swan dive into vegetarianism.
Four day’s in and it feels like I just jumped blindfolded and headfirst into a deep pool with no water. The swim sounded like a great idea, a fresh clean healthy dip to purge and cleanse my filthy self. That should do a body good I thought, especially an older one like mine that has been ridden really hard and put away very wet very often. What I didn’t anticipate was the bone crunching reality of the no water part and the concrete being so damn unsatisfying.
Getting fatter and feeling funkier and more lethargic by the day was my main motivator for this vegetarian experiment. Saving the critters that feed us, with all due respect to their ultimate sacrifice, I’m sad to say is not. My blood pressure has been silently sneaking up and blood tests show some wonky triglyceride levels that would make Willy swoon. A much “higher than is good for you” cholesterol level threatens to harm me, it’s humbling, I had to do something and I kind of like extremes so this was it.
What does all of this personal crap mean to YOU our legions of faithful followers (cough)? It means a vegetarian addition to SoupAday’s website; I think that’s a good thing. Hopefully John does too because I haven’t talked to him about it yet and this is half his baby. Since we are expanding our horizons, I would like to extend an olive branch to the freaks at PETA, if you have any totally awesome Vegan dishes that will satisfy like meat they would be much appreciated, seriously!
The next recipe we post will be a delicious soup utilizing extra firm Tufu! Yummy yummy… For Real!
